The Zero-Cloud Manifesto: Why We Brought the Backend to the Browser

For the last decade, the tech industry has been obsessed with "The Cloud." We have been trained to treat our powerful, multi-core laptops and smartphones as nothing more than dumb terminals—screens that merely display data while a server hundreds of miles away does the actual work.

We built 0mod to challenge that default.

The "Free Tool" Trap

We have all been there. You need to convert a batch of HEIC photos, merge two PDFs, or format a JSON file. You Google it. You find a "free" tool. You upload your file.

In that moment, you have lost control.

  1. Privacy is Gone: You just handed your data to a black box. Are they training AI on it? Storing it? Who knows.
  2. Bandwidth is Wasted: Why upload 500MB of data just to change a file format?
  3. Reliability is Fragile: If your internet cuts out—or if you are working from a remote location with spotty service—the tool breaks.

The Philosophy of Self-Reliance

At its core, 0mod is about digital self-reliance. Just as we believe in owning your hardware, we believe you should own your processing.

Modern browsers are incredibly powerful operating systems. With technologies like WebAssembly (WASM), we don't need a server to crop an image or convert a document. Your device is more than capable of doing it instantly.

The 0mod Promise

When you use tools like our HEIC Converter or PDF Merge, we adhere to three rules:

1. Zero Uploads (Privacy)

Your files never leave your device. There is no "backend" to hack. There is no database to leak. The processing happens in your browser's memory, and vanishes when you close the tab.

2. Zero Latency (Speed)

We remove the biggest bottleneck: the network. Processing happens at the speed of your CPU, not your upload speed.

3. Zero Connection Required (Resilience)

Our tools are Progressive Web Apps (PWAs). Once you load the site, it caches locally. You can go into airplane mode, drive into the mountains, or sit in a concrete bunker, and 0mod will still work.

The Future is Local

The cloud has its place, but it shouldn't be the default for everything. We are building a suite of utilities that respect your privacy, your time, and your hardware.

Welcome to the offline-first web.

Why is 0mod safe?

Zero Uploads

Most online tools upload your file to a cloud server to process it. We don't. Our code runs right here, on your computer.

Works Offline

Try disconnecting your internet. The status light at the top will confirm you're offline, ensuring your data never leaves your device.

Open Source

Don't trust us? Check the code. Our core tools are open source on GitHub for anyone to audit.
